Rethymnon

Rethymnon is a charming town located on the north coast of the island. Among a few things to see is the well renowned Old Town, a picturesque maze of narrow alleys and streets, lined with traditional Venetian and Ottoman-era buildings. The old town is also home to many museums, galleries, and historic landmarks. The city is rich of history that dates back to the Minoan civilization. A few historical landmarks and archaeological sites to visit are the Fortezza Fortress, the Rimondi Fountain, and the Venetian Loggia.

If you are up for a beach trip, definitely visit Preveli Beach, Amoudi Beach, and Geropotamos Beach. If you do that, do not miss the traditional cuisine including the fresh seafood, local products and traditional Cretan dishes.

For a stronger experience, keep in mind that Rethymnon hosts many festivals and events throughout the year, including the Renaissance Festival, the Wine Festival, and the Carnival celebrations. These events offer visitors a chance to experience the local culture and traditions.

This city is incredibly dense and therefore you will need to pay attention to where you park your car. Make sure it is only in designated parking areas to avoid any mishaps.
